L ast week GTD Director Jeff Marlowe spent a few days with missionaries and national partners serving in the Americas at MTW’s Area Retreat in Cancun, Mexico. He had the opportunity to lead two breakout sessions on team cohesion and on navigating conflict.

GTD believes that teams are the foundation for how we do ministry. Yet teams can be fragile as a variety of personalities with different ideas come together than can, at times, cause a team to get “stuck”. In times like these, how can teams remain cohesive and unified? How do they establish community? In his first breakout session, Jeff outlined biblical norms for team life as well as best practices to help in creating processes for healthy team development.

Yet even the best of teams have experienced situations of conflict on the field. Sometimes conflict is cross-cultural. But often, conflict is not necessarily the issue, but rather how to manage or navigate the conflict. In his second seminar, Jeff shared how the scriptures inform us of how conflicts should be handled. Additionally, he identified processes and practical approaches to address and resolve conflict.
